The country code of Canada is +1. Other countries/regions having the same country code are the USA and its unincorporated territories like Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands and United States Virgin Islands.
International dialing was not established when the first telephone system and the North American Numbering Plan were established in Canada and the US. For this reason, all countries and territories under the NANP carry +1 as their country code.
