What is area code 646 and where is its location?
According to the North American Number Plan (NANP), 646 is one of the four telephone area codes for Manhattan in New York City. It serves the borough along with area codes 212, 332, and 917. The 646 area code can be attached to both landline and cell phone numbers, as well as virtual phone numbers. It was added in 1999 to solve the scarcity of phone numbers available to the multiplying number of residents and businesses in the Manhattan borough. However, Manhattan’s Marble Hill neighbourhood is not covered by the 212/332/646 plan. It is part of the Bronx line, instead.
