Showcase your apps with an Explainer video!

Apps that extend the Freshworks experience can help businesses solve a range of problems, right from day-to-day small business integrations to critical workflow automation. As a developer, you’ve identified such a business need, built an app for it, and are ready to publish the app. With more than 1,100 apps on the Freshworks marketplace, how do you showcase your app such that it stands out in our crowded marketplace?

Worry not! We’ve got you covered. You can create a short explainer video and share it with us when you submit an app.

How does an explainer video help?

Explainer videos are one of the most used assets when considering an app and one of the best ways to ensure that all fellow developers and prospective users appreciate the value the app delivers. Research has shown that 79% of consumers would rather watch a video to learn about a product than read text on a page.

Providing an explainer video is also a great way to increase the app downloads because it shows prospective users exactly what to expect when they download the app. It can also provide the app a competitive edge simply because information about the app is readily available in a format that users love to consume. In a recent research, 84% of the participants agreed that they’ve made a purchase decision based on a brand’s video. This highlights how an explainer video can help drive more consumers and more installs.

How to create a video?

  1. Download a video recording and editing tool if you don’t have one already. Some of the ones you could use:
  2. Plan out the following:
    • How do you want to record the video?
    • What aspects do you want to cover?
    • Who are the different or specific segments of users you are targeting?
    • What are the use cases that the app serves?
  3. Based on your plan, sketch out the script you would speak over or show as text overlay.
  4. Once you have clarity on what you want to cover, just go ahead and screen record how the app functions showcasing how it works with the Freshworks product and the value it delivers.
  5. Once you’ve recorded the video,  edit the parts that do not add value such as long pauses, loading pages, error messages, and so on.
  6. Upload the video using YouTube Studio or Vimeo. Check out these links to learn more about it:
  7. Share the video when you submit the app to the Freshworks team.

What makes a great video?

Most of the well-performing apps have one thing in common – explanation on how a user can drive maximum value from the app. To ensure your explainer video communicates this in the best possible way, do keep the following  in mind:

  1. Short: Keep the explainer video short, preferably less than 2 minutes.
  2. Explanatory: Focus on the various use cases of the app. Using a voice over or overlay text to explain the point makes it easily understandable.
  3. Demonstrative: Try to demonstrate the working of the app within the Freshworks product context so that users can get started quickly.
  4. Understandable: If you are doing a voice over then you would want to focus on speaking clearly and not too fast. In case you are not then ensure screen transitions are smooth and supported with overlay text that explains the action.
  5. Background music: If you don’t have a voice over then you could use mellow music in the background that compliments the video experience but doesn’t distract a user from it. You could use Pixabay, bensound, or any such sites for this.
