How Loni Scheck’s fortuitous leap of faith fueled her success at work

Loni Scheck joined the Freshworks kudumba (family) in April 2020, after a long stint as an implementation consultant for enterprise companies.

She had been looking to be part of a “smaller and well-knit team” where she could have a greater impact on the people and processes when a recruiter from Freshworks reached out to her. Following a “short-and-sweet” interview process, she came in touch with “engaging” and “empathetic” colleagues during onboarding, who helped her get up to speed in her new role. And in less than two years, Loni won the most valuable player (MVP) award at the 2022 annual sales kick-off conference.

I felt extremely honored and grateful to be recognized as this year’s MVP of the solution engineering team at Freshworks. I cannot thank Casey Steenport, Matt Arnold, Eddie Frey, and Mukesh Mirchandani enough for making this happen! The award made me feel glad that I took the leap in my career to change into solution engineering at Freshworks, where I had all the tools needed to learn and ace my role.

Loni relates that she’s lucky to be part of the people-centric culture at Freshworks that fosters a sense of belonging at work. In a virtual watercooler chat for A Freshworker’s Life series, Loni opens up about her aspirations, daily motivations, mentorship, and the beauty of leading with humility and honesty in the workplace. Loni describes the work culture at Freshworks as “supportive, electric, and empathetic.” She’s an active member of the Freshworks Women 360 group where she plans enablement events to foster gender inclusivity at work. Speaking about the “special” culture around ‘FriYays’, she says, “Everyone loves that Freshworks focuses on its people and gives additional days off to disconnect from work and focus on our personal lives.” If Freshworks had a theme song, the American vocal group Sister Sledge’s popular song, ‘We are Family’, would be it for her.

At Freshworks, Loni’s team leads the charge in delighting customers and prospects with insightful product demonstrations and sound technical advice. “Our team is an integral part of Freshworks’ success,” she says. “We thrive on performing our very best in front of customers and growing revenue for our organization.”

When Loni joined Freshworks, she worked for a few months as a “generalist” on a broad range of Freshworks products. But her fervor to work on new challenges helped her to quickly grow into a specialist role as a “subject matter expert in one product” —  where she now works closely with contingent pillars of pre-sales, sales, and product teams to add value for Freshworks customers and prospects.

When Loni is not working on her daily tasks, she enjoys interacting with new hires and mentoring them. Her advice for newbies is: “Don’t be afraid to strive for something that’s not in your field (yet).”
