Tim Winterer thrives in a culture of growth and empowerment at work

Tim Winterer is all of twenty-five—and already taking the world of SaaS by storm.

Straight out of university into his “first full-time job” at Freshworks as a business development executive, he is refreshingly forthright about his varied set of skills. “My superpower is that I’m an all-around package that you need to succeed in sales,” he says.

Only a year in, Tim is known in the Freshworks Berlin office to be open-minded in the wake of harsh feedback, and patient and down-to-earth when success is right at the door. “I’m delighted when everyone is successful and happy with what they are doing,” he says.

Empowering delight

Tim relocated to Germany to join Freshworks. “I studied in the Netherlands and was super excited to come to Berlin and experience the diversity of the company and the city,” he says.

Freshworks paid for all of my relocation expenses and even offered me a home office budget when I started working.

Always ready to speak about his experience at Freshworks, Tim stresses the importance of his role in the company. “Without business development, revenue would fall drastically. Since we are first in line to contact leads and prospects, we represent Freshworks for customers.”

Working as a business development representative at Freshworks has opened doors for him, enabling him to speak with customers from companies big and small, including some major brands: “When I start telling people about the companies I have come in contact with, most of them stare at me with disbelief. People do not expect someone in an entry-level role to be in touch with some of the biggest companies in the world. But that’s how it is at Freshworks.”

Tim says he’s motivated by the opportunity to chart his career path at work. “Freshworks encourages employees to take the next step in their career and do what they enjoy,” he says.

Growth in numbers

Tim believes success is a numbers game. “When you put in the effort, good things will happen,” he says. Talking about success in sales, he says that, like the share market, sales is an up and down battle. “The only way to work through disappointment is to keep at it.”

Tim joined Freshworks in the middle of April 2021. “I had a very good feeling about Freshworks from the very first interview,” he says. He had actually worked with Freshdesk (Freshworks’ cloud-based customer service software) during his internship days, but he “made the connection only after applying to Freshworks and looking through its long list of product offerings.”

Tim describes the work culture at Freshworks as “diverse” and “success-driven,” where everyone embodies the “work hard, play hard” motto. In a watercooler chat for ‘A Freshworker’s Life’ series, he opens up about his experiences working with different teams and throws light on the empowering work culture that has helped him overcome challenges and guide others.
