How Inés Casariego de Vierna found her calling at Freshworks

“May your adventures bring you closer together, even as they take you far from home.”

—Trenton Lee Stewart

Inés Casariego de Vierna is not afraid to catch the sun.

Born and raised in the stunning Galicia region of Northwest Spain, she comes from “a huge Spanish family” that housed—at one time—ten children, sixteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Being connected to people has always helped her build lasting relationships at work with customers and teammates — and in life.

A lifetime of adventure

Inés lives by the motto: “The longest way round is the shortest way home.”

She was fifteen when her parents sent her to a boarding school in Ireland. A few years later, she moved to Madrid to study international business and economics and finally to Vienna to finish her master’s degree.

After Vienna, Inés moved to Dublin and worked there for four years before quitting to take a few months off work to reflect on the next move in her career.

Next stop: Freshworks

I joined Freshworks because I wanted a new adventure, and the people and the culture seemed the perfect fit for me!

Keeping up the mile-a-minute pace, Inés says that she learned about Freshworks from a “good friend in Dublin,” who also moved to Berlin to start a customer success manager (CSM) role in the company. “She referred me,” says Inés, with her tow-colored hair tied in a bun, “and the rest is history!”

When Inés moved to Germany, she did not expect the relocation to go smoothly. But she was in for a pleasant surprise. “Relocating to Berlin was smooth and easy! Freshworks not only offered me a relocation budget but also settled everything with the relocator who organized everything and made the German bureaucracy look like nothing!”

At Freshworks, Inés is passionate about her role as a business development professional. “It’s a never-ending learning experience for me,” she says, as she gets to interact with new people and ideas. She says she loves “connecting with people and companies and trying to help them see how Freshworks can make their daily jobs easier with intuitive and easy-to-use software.”

Always looking for more opportunities to learn and grow, Inés sums up her career advice: “Focus on excellence, not perfection. Don’t rely on motivation; master perseverance instead. Don’t strive to be the best, but to be better. 1% better every day becomes 100% in three months.”

Inés describes her overall experience at Freshworks simply: “great people, never-ending learning opportunities, fantastic culture.” In a watercooler chat for ‘A Freshworker’s Life’ series, she opens up about wanting to live off the beaten track, pausing to self-reflect, and moving beyond her role to work with as many people as possible. “Relationships make us who we are,” she concludes.

Work-life balance

I’m motivated by the fulfilling satisfaction of doing great work.

Inés says she’s delighted by “how friendly everyone is at work.” Every Friday, what would start as weekly recap sessions with her colleagues would soon turn into fun and frank conversations about everything under the sun. “It’s great to be laughing before closing my laptop for the weekend,” she beams.

When she’s not working, Inés enjoys hosting friends and family. “I am a passionate host,” she says with a laugh, “I love being surrounded by friends and family, good food, good wine, and tons of books and art.” When she’s at work, she makes sure she blocks time to go for long walks and stretch and keeps herself energized with “long sips of good coffee.”

Inés says the work-life balance at Freshworks has “enabled me to organize my life on my terms so that I can do my best work while staying healthy—physically and mentally.”
